SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF PHOTOCATALYTIC MATERIALS BASED ON THE TIO2-SIO2/ZNO SYSTEM
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
This article proposes a method for producing photocatalytic materials based on the TiO2-SiO2/ZnO system with a 65:10:10 component weight ratio and a 15 wt.% P2O5 additive. To obtain the materials, an alcohol solution based on tetrabutoxynitrate, tetraethoxysilane, zinc nitrate, and orthophosphoric acid was prepared using sol-gel technology. The processes occurring during solid-phase formation were studied using simultaneous thermal analysis (STA). To ensure crystallization of titanium dioxide in the anatase modification, a stepwise heat treatment was performed: drying at 60 °C and subsequent annealing at 300, 400, 500, and 600 °C for 30 minutes at each stage. The acid-base characteristics of the surface were determined by pH-metry. It was established that the material surface contains Lewis acid sites (Si4+, Ti4+), which enhance photocatalytic activity due to reagent adsorption. The structural and phase composition of the materials was studied using a combination of methods, including X-ray phase analysis and IR spectroscopy. The band gap of the obtained materials was determined from the edge of the intrinsic absorption band in the wavelength range of 190-1000 nm. A decrease in the energy of the band gap was established by creating impurity conductivity due to contact between zinc particles and the anatase phase of titanium dioxide, indicating a shift in light absorption to the visible region. Photocatalytic efficiency was assessed based on the photodegradation rate of a model pollutant (methyl orange). The introduction of zinc ions (Zn2+) was found to promote the generation and separation of electron-hole pairs in titanium dioxide, which enhances the oxidizing ability of the materials with respect to organic compounds. The obtained results confirm the potential of the developed materials for further research in the field of photocatalytic purification of aquatic environments and the atmosphere from organic pollutants.
