By the methods of X -ray and differential thermal analysis, the low-temperature nitrogen adsorption and scanning electron microscopy has been studied structure transformation of iron oxide ( III ) by thermal heating in air. It is shown that the thermal behavior of hematite accompanied by changes in its primary and secondary structure. It is found that in the temperature range from 550 to 800 °C, there are directed coordination of secondary particles of hematite and its crystal structure is improved. Above 800 °C, sintering process is intensified, accompanied by an increase in the size of the secondary particles, reduction in specific surface area and porosity. Perfection of the crystal structure of hematite in the process of annealing results in a decrease in the reaction activity.
