In this article the problem of image compression is considered. The general pattern of image compression is given, orthogonal transformation based image compression methods using JPEG algorithm and wavelet transformation are explicated. Fractal image compression based on piecewise-defined function theory is expanded. Different domain and rank block classification characteristics are observed. The approach of fractal compression acceleration using wavelet transform key points for domain and rank blocks classifications is proposed. Key points detection algorithm is described and blocks classification using salient points results are presented.
