Abstract (English):
In this paper, we have examined the activity and selectivity of catalysts for the one-step, gas phase production of methyl isobutyl ketone(MIBK) from acetone over the temperature range 373-573K. The catalysts used were an impregnated MgO/ SIO 2, Pd-MgO/ SiO 2 formed from coimpregnation of the nitrates, and a Pd supported on a 1% Mg doped silica, Pd/Mg-SiO 2.A gas-phase process for methyl isobutyl ketone synthesis from 2-propanol in one-pot is studied as an alternative to the conventional technology for producing MIBK from acetone. Bifunctional copper/acid-base catalysts able to operate at mild temperatures and atmospheric pressure. It was found that a Cu-Mg-Al mixed oxide catalyst gives high MIBK yields.
