The analysis of approaches to understanding of ways of self-development is carried out. The given modern theoretical formula of motive showing that the general orientation of the personality as prospect of its development is defined by a level of development of emotional intelligence. As a result of the conducted researches with use of pedagogical model of development of emotional competence for the first time it is proved that it is ability which can be developed. The emotional intelligence needs to be considered as self-realization of the personality, the emotional competence which separate competences need to be improved for success including in engineering activity. Levels of development of emotional competence are given.
