Abstract (English):
The influence of the blood protein fibrinogen on the adhesive properties of contemporary vascular graft materials, such as expanded polytetrafluoroethylene and polyethylene terephthalate has been studied. Adhesion effects were studied by atomic force spectroscopy, single cell force spectroscopy, and cell adhesion assays. It was shown that even if only a single monomolecular layer of fibrinogen is adsorbed on the surface of polytetrafluoroethylene, integrin mediated adhesion both of platelets and leukocytes hasbeen strongly reduced. The adhesion forces between cells and both polytetrafluoroethylene and polyethylene terephthalate are reduced on an average of 80% after adsorption of fibrinogen, even at low concentrations.
