An important condition for ensuring long-term maintenance of road surfaces located in regions where negative temperatures can reach significant values (about minus 40 °C and above) is the use of raw components of asphalt mixtures with the required level of low-temperature characteristics. The widespread introduction of bitumen binders containing additional components that help expand the temperature range of road surfaces, especially in regions with low and ultra-low temperatures, requires the development of scientifically based materials science approaches to calculating their qualitative and quantitative composition. The article discusses the viscosity parameters of the initial and mixed plasticizing bitumen binders based on products of wood processing and forestry. The method of determining dynamic viscosity using a Brookfield viscometer was chosen as the research method, the principle of operation of which is based on the analysis of the applied forces during rotation in a viscous medium of the spindle. The test materials were mixed with each other in various ratios, after which they were dynamically exposed using a viscometer at various temperatures in order to control the rheological properties of mixed plasticizers of plant origin, depending on the ratio of components with high and low molecular weight. To ensure the highest accuracy, the tests were carried out in parallel on two different viscometers with RVDV-2H and SNB-AI thermocouples, differing in technical characteristics and functionality. In the course of the study, temperature dependences and viscosity parameters of both the initial plasticizers and their mixtures were established in various, including optimal, ratios.
