Transformation of porous structure, nature of supported chromium species, as well as isobutane dehydrogenation characteristic of microspherical chromia-alumina catalyst under modification by SiO 2 were studied. Catalyst activity and selectivity increases during the modification by 1.0-4.5 wt% SiO 2 as a result of formation of more number of surface Cr 2O 3 clusters. Thus, clusters are characterized by lower d-d- transition energy in Cr(III) oct -ion.
